Nanjundeshwara Temple in Nanjangud

It was indeed a blessing for me to visit the dakshin kashi (Nanjangud).I happened to go to my cousin's place in Nanjangud on Friday the 19th of december.I had started off from my office late n reached my place at 12.30 am.
It was such a pleasing moment for me dat my cousin,my periamma n cousin all were eagerly waiting to welcome me....
Nanjundeshwara- The temple of Lord Shiva, exists in Nanjangud a place around 22kms from Mysore. Its called the Dakshin Kashi.A lovely historical place giving its shrine from past many decades. Its a shiva temple, and lots of stories behind the existence of this lovely divine presence exists. The great architecture wid various stone idols n divine beauty still makes a sight of awesomeness. The stories for the formation of teh temple are many.
One being, the story of Gautam rishi's,wherein Gautam rishi curses Indra n his wife Ahalya.Ahalya was cursed to become a rock for years n wud yield moksha only from Lord Rama's blessings.Indra on the other hand seeks blessings from Lord Siva in Dakshin Kashi.
Another history....
The main temple at Nanjangud is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, whose another name is Nanjundeshwara. Nanjundeshwara means "The God who drank poison". In Hindu mythology the Gods and demons churned the ocean in search of the nectar of immortality. During this churning, there were lots of artefacts that emanated out of the ocean including poison. To prevent the poison from spreading across the universe and to destroy it, Shiva came to the rescue and drank the poison. His wife Parvati then held his throat tightly to prevent the poison from spreading to the rest of his body. Nanjanagud literally means "the place where Nanjundeshwara resides."
There is temple of Parashurama, probably the only temple of Parashurama,n hence the place is also called the Parashurama kshetra. Its said Lord shiva had himself quoted that the devotee going to seek blessings from Lord Shiva shud take a visit to Parashurama temple to complete their piligrimage effectively
